Collectors Guide

ORIGIN of nostalgix TCG

First up, you’ll be wondering what exactly this game is. Let’s get you up to speed, hero!

Nostalgix Trading Card Game was created by Hunter Angell, aka Cardmaster Zaba over the course of a 2 year development cycle starting in late 2019. Sprouting from a love of trading card games dating back to his childhood, Zaba compared all of the most popular trading card games’ that he’d grown up with and devised a way to blend their mechanics together in order to streamline them for new players.

Leveraging his dominance in the fan-made custom card market, he and a group of artists created Base Set, a beautiful harmony of cultures and references. The Nostalgix Kickstarter debuted in late 2021 to record-breaking success eventually raising over $1,000,000 in pre-release funding. The rest they say, is history.

Why Collect Nostalgix? beautiful, Early, Nostalgia.

Nostalgix cards are beautiful.

From hand-drawn art to digital masterpieces, cell shaded to stained-glass, there is no shortage of gorgeous art to enjoy in the Nostalgix Trading Card Game. Not only are the artists involved at the top of their game, our printers are mechanical masterminds when it comes to pulling off every crazy idea we throw at them. Here’s a quick showcase of some of our favorite examples of excellence in card-making.

You’re Early
The first ever Nostalgix cards made publicly available were released on Patreon in late 2021. That’s not that long ago, which is a good thing for collectors. Many of the long-standing card games had their inception decades ago making the earliest cards nearly impossible to track down. Getting in early has its perks.

A world of nostalgia
Go figure a game called Nostalgix would be based in nostalgia - but it goes deeper than that. Not only is the gameplay and art nostalgic, the characters within it are too. Here’s some deep cut examples:

Puppetmaster Rong is based on traditional real-world Vietnamese water plays, which is why “Rong”, the Vietnamese word for “Dragon”, is pulling a dragon puppet out of the water in this art.

Pelaga is based on a creature image that went viral many years ago of the Glaucus atlanticus, aka the blue sea slug. It’s a pelagic (open-ocean) beast, thus the name Pelaga.

Nessea is a continuation of that idea answering the question, what would happen if Pelaga grew to Loch Ness monster sizes and the iceberg on its back grew along with it. Ness x Sea, as it were.

Nostalgix Card Origins

Verox is a fox with succulents sprouting from its neck. Aloe Vera is a type of succulent that heals, similar to Verox’s effect. So it’s an Aloe Vera Fox a Verox.

Semperkin is one of my favorites to explain, because as the cacti on its body spreads, threatening to consume the fox itself, it is still a Fox subtype. The Latin word semper means always, and kin is defined as meaning family. Therefore Semperkin literally means ‘always family’.

There’s more of these references throughout the Nostalgix universe, but one thing remains clear, this is a universe built upon a fond devotion to Earth’s history and culture. Luckily for us, when you dig this deep into Earth’s culture you occasionally find yourself among the origins of other pop-culture universes. Had we made a fox, a member of the Vulpes family mind you, who split their soul 6 ways, we’d surely have been tempted to call it a
Vulpes of the six. ;)

Card rarities, Print Runs, and hit rates

We’ve always been very transparent when it comes to our card rarities, print runs, and hit rates. But we’ve gone above and beyond in some cases, going as far as to release the total global number of some cards so you know exactly how rare something is when you pull it. To fully appreciate this, let’s start by covering how rarity in Nostalgix even works.

Within a 10-card booster pack, you have 5 rarities in play: Common (6 per pack), Uncommon (3 per pack), and the final slot is a shot at a Rare (which could also be holographic), a Void Rare or a Gold Rare. Click the pack simulator below to get a feel of what you could pull from an actual pack!
